A statement from Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport)

“I have been saying it for years – the most important thing that a public official can do is work to ensure the safety of his or her community. By failing to take a strong stand in support of the NYPD, Mayor de Blasio and President Obama have compromised the security of the greatest law enforcement agency in the world and put police officers everywhere in grave danger.”

“This is a crisis of leadership. Mayor de Blasio inflamed racial tensions in New York City with a reckless disregard for those who would have to pay the ultimate price. The senseless slaying of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos is a disturbing sign of a city in turmoil. I am urging Gov. Cuomo and my legislative colleagues to prioritize further protections for our brave law enforcement officers during the upcoming session .”

“The irony is that we now must find a way to protect our protectors,” said Finch.
