“I took a stand against the pay increase by voting against the creation of the legislative pay commission. Let me be very clear: I will vote against any pay increase that comes to the Assembly Floor. Rather than focus on increasing their own pay, Assembly Democrats should join us in pushing policies that will raise incomes for all New Yorkers and elevate more families into a strong middle class. I understand that some of my colleagues from areas with a high cost of living want a raise, but at a time when too many downstate lawmakers have defrauded citizens, hatched corruption schemes and increased taxes on working families, it just wouldn’t be appropriate. I would encourage my opponent to take a stand and refuse to accept campaign cash from Assembly Democrats, the major proponents of a legislative pay increase.”
