ETHICS REFORMS REMAIN ELUSIVE
A Statement by Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 8, 2016
“The governor and the speaker have used soaring rhetoric to convey their commitment to ethics reform. So far, they have delivered nothing. Their inaction is particularly frustrating because the solutions are out there and they’re obvious. We know public officials with perpetual access to power and pots of public money abuse their positions. Our conference has called for term limits for legislative leaders and committee chairs. We know that hardworking New Yorkers should be saving for their futures, not padding the retirement accounts of disgraced felons. Our conference has called for pension forfeiture.
“In Albany, where there’s a will, there’s a way. When something is important to New York City Democrats, it simply gets done, sometimes in the middle of the night without any of them bothering to read the bill. My message to the speaker and the governor is that passing meaningful public ethics reform is a necessity.”
