FIGHT FOR ETHICS REFORM WILL CONTINUE A statement by Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport)

FIGHT FOR ETHICS REFORM WILL CONTINUE “Today, our conference outlined a series of reforms that would usher in a new era of transparency and fairness in our chamber. We believe that if a majority of the members want to pass a bill, it should come to the floor for public discussion. We believe that the work that goes on in our committee meetings is too important to be hidden from taxpayers. We believe that concentrating power in the hands of the same people year after year is going to generate the same, unsatisfactory results for working families in New York.”

“The Democratic Majority wielded its considerable power to stop our reform measures this afternoon. We are not discouraged. We will continue to engage people across the aisle because we hope that, eventually, their rank-and-file members will realize that our proposals will help them serve their constituents. We believe that might be more valuable to them than the convenient parking spot or greater supply budget that the speaker is offering them.”

“Mostly, we’re confident that New Yorkers across the state will pressure their representatives to join us in championing transparency, inclusiveness and reform. Together, we can build a government that we’re proud of.”
